I was in my local grocery buying a money order to pay my rent and the Coin Star guy was unloading and servicing the machine. I started asking questions and was surprised at the answers. They don't go through the coins looking for anything special, rare or collectible. Instead, they just bag up the coins and Brinks picks them up. I also found out that larger coins won't fit and most surprising was the fact that silver coins are rejected and drop to the coin return automatically. This may explain why you find so many "keepers" when checking the machines. I didn't ask if all Coin Stars are like that or just his. Hope some part of this is helpful.

Silver coins get rejected at my grocery stores machine and at my banks machine, so I think they are all set up that way. different weight on silver maybe?

Good thing to know. Unfortunately, the nearest Coinstar to me is 80 miles away! :censored:
