Got invited out and hit a friends farm field. Spent a long time digging cans and various junk things. Even stopped detecting to go wonder around the woods for bit. Then when we were heading back to the cars i tripped over a faint high tone. At certain angles it was a solid 81 on my MXT. This usually means silver dime, but at the depth it was saying it could have been anything. I popped the hole and saw what i thought was most likely a stainless steel washer. But as i plucked it out i realized it was not a washer. I thought it was barber quarter and called my friends over with a huge grin on my face. Turned out to be a 1787 2 Real!

Then the rain started and our friend with permission left so we drove to another permission and by the time we got there the rain stopped. I was able to recover a flat button, some overall buttons, a small bell, some cutlery pieces, a 1843 large cent and a CT copper along with the usual clad change and pull tabs. Rain picked up again and we called it a day.

Must be the cosmic rays aligning! This is my first 2 real, only found milled half reals and a hammered 1 real. Hope we both find more and maybe some 4 and 8s too!

I'd certainly like to get some of what you have-man I'd be a tripping for a good many moons.
Congrats on the 2 Reale, and the coppers.
See you have(what looks like) a pocket knife side plate all folded up also. (great little finds when they're complete.)
Great early site results, congrats.

How did your friends make out in the recoveries?

Yea man, i dno why but when im out in a super quiet farm field and im not gridding it out, i call it tripping over a signal.

I have an old MXT with a Detech Ultimate 13” Coil. Best combo ive ever used for farm fields.

Is the folded up thing youre referring to the things i think are cutlery handles or the folded up piece with “new york” visable (bottom right)?

Thanks for the congrats. One friend got a 1822 largie (200 years old on the nose) and another friend scored a nova constellatio. We went back the next day and got a whole lot of can slaw and not a single old thing. Go figure.

The item isn't a cutlery handle as it has a little loop for a screw hole. So I'll dismiss the blade thought and go with it attached to leather/wood item.
If it only has one of these ring holes then it could be where a swivel ring was attached so one could put a tether on it.

The reason for my discounting a piece of cutlery is most handles have a taper to them, and you folded piece looks to have the same width.

Can you read what the complete wording on the item?

Yes. For sure not a cutlery handle. Its folded over twice actually. Ill try to get another pic of it later. From what i remember about it, it has two of those folded over holes on both sides. One top and one bottom. Its probably 4” long and about 3/4” tall. The mystery continues!

It could be Park & Tilford, New York. A grocery store built in Harlem in 1908, now on the register of historic places.

That sounds good Radon. Here are some more pics of it. I thought it was folded over twice but its actually two separate pieces held together where the circles are. The circles are pressed together and i think there was originally more to it but it got cut off so the other part is missing with most of the first name.
