Colonial Gold Earring

A new site and new detector- the XP Deus 2. I was a little late to the party on this site, but managed to sniff out a few tombac, pewter, and flat buttons along with the other incidentals like native American artifacts and clay pipe stems, nice colored china pieces. But I hit a very low conductor with the Deus 2 and ended up digging this gold ring, which tested at least 14K. The 18K acid held for a while but eventually ate it up. I had some doubts as to whether it is actually a ring or maybe an earring? But someone from my YouTube channel commented that it was a 1750's gold ring. Due to the thickness of the ring I believe it is a colonial gold ring. But I am not expert on old jewelry. The YouTube video link of the find is also attached below.

Congrats on the Gold Ring.
I'll be interested to follows peoples thoughts on this one, I'm no good with 18th C Rings. I have no problem believing it, just interested to learn more, if anyone can add to the ID.

Congrats on the gold, never have seen anything that looks like before, so unique.
I can't see why it would be a ring.
Being how it is constructed so it can be opened it certainly looks to be an earring.

Yes, I'm thinking it is an earring. I found a few pictures of some Georgian Era gold earrings with a similar design.
