Back to my colonial site again today ( third time there) and it did not disappoint! Unbelievably I found a second cannon ball, lots of pieces of Native American pottery, and some pottery from the settlers. Also I found a couple of buttons plus what I believe to be a rosette ? But the coolest thing is this piece of shoe buckle with crowns on it! If only I had it all! But I will take this piece! I also found three pieces of metal that I don't know what it is. I have two other ones that I found on this site. Holler out if you have any ideas! Pipe stem pieces and rolled lead, a cool tack and puece of brass. This site is unreal!

Great finds. Love the buckle. They made such beautiful designs back then.

Yes, I was thinking shoe buckle but it may be a spectacle buckle. I believe that piece is 1/4 of the frame. I hope someone can ID it. I looked through the buckle ID book and haven't seen a pattern like it. It's a beauty!

Don't be surprised if the rest of the buckle ends up under your coil....let's hope so. Great post up

Would have been a very nice 18th C Shoe Buckle but I don't think those are Crowns.(they are Foliate Sprigs) Not a spectacle type, more like the shape of the one pictured below:

buckle.JPG

The piece under it is a round (often plain brass) horse harness leather decoration/mount. 18th C.

Nice digs! The object in your second picture is actually a leather adornment for a horse bridle or something similar.

Thank you for the insight. I sm not totally up on all my colonial knowledge. Is there a name for that specific buckle type?

Just a shoe buckle, not sure if that shape has a technical name.
