I hit a new spot several times this past week. It is an interesting hole in the woods along a former road. The hole is not rock lined, though there are a few broken old red bricks in it. I heard a lot of iron, so I assumed it was a cellar. First time there I dug this nice shoe buckle and a few plain flat buttons. While lacking any designs, the buckle is complete and in pretty good shape. The next couple trips produced more buttons and a couple buckle parts. The flat button with the design is my favorite, and is my largest Dandy button with a 1 1/2 inch diameter. Two buttons are very shiny, which I assume are tombac. Almost all of the buttons had shanks, and are probably 1700s. I have found no coins yet. If they are there, they might be beyond my patience and expertise. Good luck out there, and happy hunting!

More incredible Mass finds- Congrats Lenmac! To think, I'm contemplating retiring in North Carolina- may have to give that some serious reconsideration- at least until I can no longer swing a detector.

Thanks Jeff. Summer on the Cape and winter in North Carolina, perhaps? One can dream. Great detecting in both states, I suspect. HH!

Congrats on the awesome Mass Colonial finds! Nothing like seeing a complete shoe buckle coming out of the ground. Do the parts still swivel? I have a few that do.

Thanks! I am not sure if the parts swivel, as I am too afraid to try. I rarely find old buckles like this, so I want to make sure it stays intact. Pretty cool that you got your buckles to move. Must be in great shape too. Thanks again.
