Hello All! I got out this morning to a housesite that has been hunted hard. JimDon let me know that they were clearing land by the home so I figured Id give it a shot. I went behind the house to where it was previously overgrown & got a solid 32 on the Mxt Pro. I was expecting a beaver tail pull tab but was surprised to see A round disc pop out, it was only about 1-2 inches down. I carefully brushed it off & immediately recognized what I had just found, I couldn't believe it! A NC Confederate starburst button!!! This was literally the first signal I dug. This one has been on my bucket list for a while. I found a NC Confederate state seal button a while back. This button really does mean a lot to me. I am a NC native & had many ancestors fight & die in the Civil War. I don't go out looking for CW relics but have been fortunate to find some good ones at old homesites. I also dug this pocket knife at the site. I only spent an hour there, still mostly overgrown. I left there & went to meet up with a few buddies at a school. I only stayed about 30 minutes but managed a plated ring & stone setting from another. The other junk ring is from the same school but was found yesterday. Hopefully gold will show up soon, its been over 2 months! I had a great day, definitely one to remember. Thanks for looking & HH!

Awesome find man!! I still don't have one of those in my collection. Hopefully you can scrounge out a few more of those from that site. Good luck!

Forgot to add the pic of it right after being dug, it cleaned up really nice :) I just used a toothpick, no water & sealed it with my Burt's Bees lip balm. A lot of the ones I looked at online are in rough shape

Awesome!!! My great great great grandfather, his son, and his uncle were in the Confederate NC 22 Infantry Company B. One was the general, one was an A.C.S. and the other a PVT. One was shot in the head at Gettysburg and survived. He later died at The Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse. The ACS was captured by Union forces at The Battle Of Wilderness and forced to take the oath two years later. I've always wanted one of these for that reason. Their company flag is in the NC State History Museum.

One of my ancestors was in the 23rd. His peg leg is at the NC state museum. Their battle flag is also at the state museum. Are you sure he wasn't in the 23rd?

Most North Carolina buttons do come out in rough shape. Must have been the material from which they were made. It seems they have more ground action aflicting them than most any other buttons.

What do you mean you hope you find gold soon? Confederate relics are better than gold!

I agree! I still like finding gold though. :-) Its not too much CW relic hunting to be had close by. This was a nice surprise!
