I was at an old house built in 1746 I had gotten a silver dollar reading 7 in. down, so I started to dig I pulled out a large bent piece of copper 2 in. round, deep in the clay layer, upon quick inspection it was too dirty to id at the house so I put it in my bag and went home to clean it off I was gonna put it in water first but i decided to take the chunck of dirt out between
the bent piece first im glad I did, out popped a second ornate copper ring 1 1/2 in. round and in the dirt to my surprise was what I thought was a piece of paper but it turned out to be a piece of canvas with a painting still 50% intact! Id love to find out more about this piece.

Wow! Find a preservation specialist first of all, at your earliest opportunity. Nearest big town museum or university. I had found a gold heart shaped locket 9" deep in great shape at a 140 year old site, but the tiny tin type and letter inside were already beyond slavage. The picture here looks fantastic.

Great find! It amazes me how some items seem to last forever! You wouldnt think a picture would survive all these years! Thanks for sharing it with us!

I have to say... seeing this in person, the pic does NOT do it justice!! There is intricate color throughout it that you can tell was added (at least I think) to the pic. My friend Donna was in awe about it, that is all i heard on the way home, lol, She'll probably want me to find one for her too........
