🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Copper pin

Found this copper pin type item in a farm field that was Union side of Civil War Cavalry battle. Could this be some type hat pin? There is a hole at top and bottom ,how would this attach and to what?

With the holes opposite each other, I would say it is some type of suspender buckle.
