It may be a piece of a pot but not Native American. It looks like a rim shard and reminds me of a modern, molded, "graveyard" flower pot made of cement. JMO
I thought the same thing Terry. You can see in one of the close up pics the Sand particles are clear crystal granules…

Sorry for the late reply, I just saw this. Native American pottery was generally fairly thin. It was fired two different ways. Either it was buried partially in the ground with the fire inside of it or completely outside the ground with the fire inside of it. you can usually see three different layers on the cross section. Also the tempering varied by time period. Sand, Crushed shell, crushed pottery were all used.

I have seen burial pots that thick but that looks like concrete. Keep looking!
