Could this possibly be a old coin stamp die

I dug this maybe 4 years ago here in the woods in southern, Indiana. I keep going back to this piece cause I haven’t identified it yet and it’s an unusual find. It is magnetic and has an octagon shape with eight sides. I’ve taken photos using quarters to show size and have scaled weight. Tell me what you think. Here is also a picture I googled of a similar type die shape. Last picture is die off google!

first guess it’s a broken (top half) of some sort of striking tool (chisel, punch, etc). The mushroom at the top is from a lot of usage/hammer blows

I have to agree with ncsuwolf. Far from an expert, but the grains in the metal resemble wrought iron. It does look like a the tip of a striking tool. Cool find regardless. 👍

I did look at chisels on line and punches go way back, it does have some similarities. I don’t really know for sure. It is layered oddly and looks like it definitely went through tremendous heat! I would really like to get it tested somewhere.
