Got these 2 bells at an early 1800's house site today. House was used until somewhere in early 1900s as 1939 Aerial photo shows just a cellar hole in the field. Landowner told me he filled it in around 1950. Field is a pain to detect. Its switchgrass. Spent a few hours there and found these, old lantern parts, spoon, and other brass odds and ends.

Those bells are fantastic. I’d be shocked if you don’t find some nice old coins there too. Congrats and good luck!

Doing a little googling, looks like the Crotal Bell maker might be;
''Hubbard or Hiram Barton and was made in the early 1800's''

Nice to get a complete carriage bell, I normally find them smashed up.

Thanks everyone! I plan on going back this week if I have time. Hopefully they cut the switchgrass when it dries out this spring. Will make it a lot easier to detect.

Congrats on the two bells that seem to date the house date info nicely.:occasion14:
Digging up a Crotal that has the maker's mark is always a winner.:hello2:
Doesn't matter being the first bell, or the 50th bell, it's just a good day for the recovery, as it never gets tired.

Nice finds! I've never been able to find a complete brass bell like that one and I've never even found a piece of a croatal bell.
