Father's day is this Sunday....


Never spent enough time with Pop, but every minute that I did, I still remember and Treasure!
Guess I'll let him breathe this weekend....

If your Father is still alive, Spend some time with him, share activities that he loves.
Take him to places he loves and do things together that will make memories.

A memory of Dad and I catfishing....

I must have been 12 or 13....

Before Clinton Lake was formed....
In Douglas County, Kansas.

Pop had a 57 Chevy, 3 on the tree pickup, and we went fishing.

Storms were predicted, that night, back in the early 70's, but, we were determined to catch some catfish.

So, we went to our favorite river site on the Wakarusa river, south of Lawrence, through a cornfield farmer's path and parked.

Pop went upstream, I went downstream.

The catfish were biting strong and I soon had a stringer full.

The sky grew dark and menacing and I heard my Dad whistle, A sign to meet at the truck.

As I made my way up the river bank to the cornfield, lugging a stringer of catfish, the weather grew even worse.
The sky was a putrid green....

Fighting my way through corn taller than me to the truck, the wind picked up.

I was first to the truck and had started it and was ready to go!

Soon, Pop showed up, jumped in and said, "GO, Boy!"

I drove towards town while trees and branches fell all around us.
Baseball sized hail threatened the windshield.....

We finally made it home safely and my Sister was freaking out worrying about us.

I calmly showed her the stringer of catfish I had caught and said, "The fish bite when it rains."

SHE QUESTIONS MY JUDGEMENT TO THIS DAY...LOL!


Because she doesn't know her brother and what he is about.
(Sometimes I don't know myself either....... huh?")

Later found out that a tornado had went through where Pop and I were fishing.

That's what I mean about memories!

Joke of the day - for our Northern friends -Producers have announced that they are suspending production of “The Real Housewives of Toronto.”

Apparently, the show didn’t work because every argument ended with, “You know what? You’re right. I’m sorry.”

Lots of welcome rain last night and today.
Means I don't need to drag the lawn cart with flat front tires with a wheelchair to water a hundred Miscanthus Gigantus rhizomes intended for screening.
Not a disagreeable task ,but not missed either.
Next year , barring a drought they will be on their own though...

Well, less than an hour ago she sent me a "Friend Request" via Facebook.

Her "Nom de Plume" is her middle name and our last name growing up.

I was 99% sure of who it was.....

Hopefully we can re-connect.

Last I knew, she lived in Concordia, Kansas.
