It is an earlier style, more than likely made in the 18th century but could have been lost much more recently. They used them a long time.

Wash the dirt out, and ring the bell.
It's puts a smile on my face every time-just something that never gets old.
Probably one of the only finds that I can think of that one can bring back to life after so many years of silence.
That's why I really think a bell is truly a top shelf recovery.
Well done, and congrats.

I dug this a few days ago with the Fisher Coinstrike & the ten inch coil. it was about 8 inches deep solid signal ground is soaked from the rain. Along with a 1944 Wheat Cent. Even with rain coat I packed it in after the bell. they were both dug from the same place I pulled the tokes from in the pictures I posted before.
Cool find. I hope to get one someday.

How right you are about putting a smile on your face with the sound of the bell being rang. I showed my granddaughter the noise made from a different one and she was loving it.

I imagine it would.
I have given many away to the permission's wives over the years.
Tie a little red ribbon on them, and drop them off before Xmas to hang on their tree.
Seem to dig a good amount of them yearly if I get out in the dirt.

Nice Bell !

A lot of the Crotal Bells have the maker's initials on the bottom.
If yours has initials on it you can learn the who, when and where it was made.
Most of the ones I've found were mfg. in the UK in the late 1700's and 1800's.
There's a few web sites on the subject - just do a Google search - "Dating Crotal Bells".
