I was pretty pleased to find my first state copper in a pond today. It was in about a foot of water and roughly 6" down in hard packed stones. I hunted for maybe two hours finding mostly pennies and sinkers. It actually surprised me no silver or much of anything else had popped up.
So it is pretty toasted and I don't think much good would come from any cleaning since it's been in water for decades already. I think it is a 1787. Looks better in person but not much!

Don't even think about cleaning it. It's pretty cool just the way it is and tells a history all by itself. Just display it and enjoy.
