Hey Mental Granny, Did I read that Jacob will be there? If so would you ask him if he would dig for me and give me a hand? If we win any prizes I will give it to him or split it up depending on what it is. I don't have anyone to help me and I can't get up and down anymore. I have a brand new detector I have never used and I am really looking forward to trying it out. Ask him and let me know. Monty

Who all is staying at the Motel 6 at South Haven? I have reservations and thought we might all get together and go out and have a meal and/or a drink together. I can't drink alcohol because of my medicine but I don't mind a bit if someone else wants a snort or two. Let me know on this post if you are in. Monty

Is there any place to get a really good prime rib in Caldwell or nearby? The best one I ever had in Kansas was in Dodge City at the Dodge House Cafe. A police captian in Dodge City once worked with me on the Tulsa OK PD and I had my prime rib with him. I always stop in there when I go pheasant hunting in western Kansas. Oh and an amusing anecdote about Dodge House Cafe. Last time I stopped in there I was chowing down on my huge prime rib, baked potato and all the trimmings and this family sat down in a booth next to me. It was a man and a woman with 3 small kids and you could tell they were not well off by their dress. The little girl kept peeking over the back of the booth and flirting with me. That evening spaghetti was the special at a dollar a plate. I heard and saw them counting out all their money and they came up a dollar short. They asked the waitress if they could borrow a dollar and she consented. I felt so bad about me sitting there eating a ten dollar prime rib while they had to scramble just to afford the cheapest thing in the place that I called the waitress over and told her to give me their ticket and not to tell them until after I left. I also gave her an extra tenand told her to get them some desert after their meal. That made me feel good and I continued on my way to Colorado for an Elk hunt. Monty

Great story, Monty! How many times have you been to Caldwell? Just as many times as me, you know there are limited eating establishments there...no prime ribs but I know where you can get all the calf fries you can eat. LOL! Just ask Burdie or anyone else who ate @ The Red Barn. Last year they ran out of food just about everyplace in Caldwell...several of us from Motel 6 ventured up to Arkansas City. Alden, Anna & I ate @ a Chinese Buffet; Larry, Tom, Mel and a few others went to a steak house (Sirloin Stockage); WSD & Lance went to Braums.

Monty, I ALSO enjoy a good steak and will be seeking one out. I ALWAYS tip high. I found a restaurant not noted for their steak (Bradenton, FL) anf found the service AND steak better that day than many steak houses. I called for the waitress to have the chef that cooked my steak to come to the table. She went and got him.... both appeared to be ready for a confrontation. I tipped him $100 and the waitress $50. I told him it was better steak, and service than (local steal house) and I wanted them to know it. My message is.... I root for the underdog! A well known eatery may be famous for its food but the guy in the kitchen and gals at the tables make it the nice place it is..... not the name. TTC

WSD they closed the buffet at the casino. I think it is a sports club. Steak houses galore in Wichita.

There is the the Rock Steak House (new owners since 09/2010) in Wellington. Used to be the Wellington Steak House Motel.
Haven't had a steak there but the Fried chicken was really good. We don't get to Wellington much so maybe someone else can give a review.
It's about 30 miles to Wellington from Caldwell and only 18 miles from South Haven.

I ate at the Rock this Sunday. Eat all the chicken you want on Sundays 8 dollars. The Steaks run around $14 to $20 dollars. I have not tried one.
See you all soon.

The Old Chisholm Trail

Well come along boys and listen to my tale,
I'll tell you my troubles on the old Chisholm Trail.

On a ten dollar horse and a forty dollar saddle,
I started out to punchin' them longhorn cattle.

I started up the trail October twenty-third,
I started up the trail with the 2U herd.

I'm up in the morning before daylight,
And before I sleep the moon shines bright.

It's bacon and beans most every day,
We'll soon be a-eatin' prairie hay.

With my seat in the saddle and my hand on the horn,
I'm the best damned cowboy that ever was born.

It's cloudy in the west and a-lookin' like rain,
And my damned old slicker's in the wagon again.
