Dad & Daughter in DFW Texas

Hello.

We are new to the site and new to the culture/ hobby.

Santa brought me and my daughter a Garrett Ace 150 for Christmas. We have already found a lot of old beer cans!

We look forward to this new hobby and finding more interesting things.

If y'all have tips on good places to start, I'm all ears!

Hi-

Great hobby to have with your kid. You should get a clad coin, a pulltab, a silver coin, some rusted up iron, a big piece of aluminium, and some gold. Hide them under a rug, for each other to find, in your house. Check theres no metal nails or rebar, if there is, learn how to discriminate it first. You will start to hear different tones for each item.

leave a post- it note where, and what you think each item is.Swap them around for each other.

It just takes time to learn the machines! The beach is great for starting out. When you start finding the good stuff, buy a pinpointer! Have one person detecting, and the other retrieving!

Welcome! Here is a tip on those soda cans. When you get a signal that you think is a soda can, raise the coil ten inches above the ground and swing again. If the signal disappears, it is coin sized. If the signal is still strong, it's big like a soda can.
