Found this cross on a shipwreck from the mid 1700s in the silt between the ribs of the hullt. It's quite remarkable in and of itself but I can't help but wonder more about it. I'm just curious if anyone has any more information about it by looking at it about its origins or use/purpose. It seems to be pewter and gold. Unfortunately I don't know much about the shipwreck. Thanks in advance for any help.

That bead of gold looks like one you would find in a crucible from a assay ore sample test. Now that you found that in a shipwreck are you going back to look for more treasure ?

Nice recovery pewter from saltwater has that familiar blistered black surface and gold is about the only metal that comes out looking like it went in

Cool piece! Based on the size I wonder if it is the end of a rosary. Does it look like it had a loop at the top?

Also possibly a Christ figure mounted on it that broke off or oxidized away...

The gold dot at the bottom is intriguing. I've seen 19th C. crucifixes with a skull and cross bones (Adam's skull?) located in that same spot.

Just curious... how do you know or what makes you think the wreck is 1700's?

We've found two Danish clay pipes which date 1750-1780 on the wreck.
