A lot of muck to go through to just use a metal detector.

I take it from your response you lack familiarity with the detector and the videos linked. If you took the time to do even minimal research, you would realize that the videos simply provide additional information to help you hone your overall skills (not just with the Deus itself, but how to detect in general). There is nothing to "muck" through to get swinging with a Deus. It's like any other detector, you turn it on and it beeps. The more you swing it and familiarize yourself with its features, the better you get at using its more advanced features, again just like any detector. Once you have it set up to your liking for the types of detecting you prefer, the ability to save individual custom programs you gradually develop to your liking means you basically have a turn on and go detector for just about any situation.

Thanks, anyway for the informed insight and the positivity...I know it's seems perhaps a little over your head, but you made the effort to "muck" your way over here just to drop some holiday cheer on a sticky post in the Deus Forum (wanted to put your best foot forward for posterity, I suppose), so if you are that interested in the Deus, I am sure you could figure it out, Keppy, without too much trouble.
