Did I find a flintlock part?

Today I was searching a saltwater landing where I sometimes score musket balls (both .615 possibly British and 69 caliber) and coins back to the late 1700s so far. Draped bust LC for example. Today's find was made in close proximity to the musket balls.

Not sure if I have found a flintlock hammer? May have been subjected to a fire as It seems like it may have melted some. It is ferrous iron as a magnet sticks very well. The end of the knob is non-ferrous is the magnet will not stick there. It looks bright like brass where scratched a little. Does the protruding part look like a flint to you guys?

It would be really cool if it was a Ferguson rifle part or something similar. What do you experts out there think? Am I completely off base having misidentified it? It may be just wishful thinking on my part

Doubtful. Flintlock hammers don't usually have any brass on them. Electrolosis might clean it up for a better ID.

In your 3rd pic it looks like a itty bitty hammer head,like you,d drive tacks with.Probably not but that,s what it looks like!

Hi Gunsil, That is probably what I'll do. Do you think a vinegar soak would do or should I hook it up to power? Not sure if the stone will come loose or not. It seems pretty well attached but might loosen up with electrolysis.
