Took my 8 year old son out to find some "pirate treasure" Sunday. Drove about 100 miles after all was said and done. We hit the beach in Lavallette, Sea Bright, Port Monmouth, East Keansburg and Cliffwood Beach in New Jersey. We fought bone chilling wind despite it being about 36 degrees. Even had like 4 ft cliffs of erosion at Lavallette but there was nothing there. The highlight of the day was lunch at a local diner. Ended up with 3 clad dimes, seven zinc pennies and about a pound of lead sinkers.
The tide was so low with the west wind and new moon I have never seen it so low. In fact, you could just about have walked out to Treasure Island off Cliffwood Beach where it is rumored that years ago gold coins had been found. If you ever need fishing sinkers, that's the place to go. I probably have over 100 lbs on hand and have given as much away.
Just for the heck of it, I hit my hunted out spot for about 1/2 hr and found two wheaties. That spot has never let me down for at least one wheatie per visit for over three years. I try to hit it after a hard rain as it seems the ground gets stirred up.
