My condolences :cross:, I am glad you shared his life with us just as you have shared your Grandmothers life. Otherwise I would have never known of them, now they also live in me.

@Crosse De Sign,
Just out of curiosity - what does the Danish flag below your avatar signify? (yup, as you can see, I carry the Norwegian flag)

Loke,

It was the closest I could find for a family crest,
till I can get the real one. It should be a red cross
on white, with other things. I think there must have
been some knights, Templars... Thanks for asking,
and nice flag you fly there... :sunny::fish:
:cross:
In that case - would the St. George Cross not be more appropriate (the Sassenach flag - with an apology to any members from the ole world :-)

And thank you - and I'll tell you how it came about.
In 1814 Norway finally got rid of the Danes (we are still friends, no animosity) after 434 years (last Norwegian viking king died in 1380).
So - what should our new flag look like? One of the representatives for the 'new' nation had a son who first drew the Danish flag. Since we didn't want that, he put a blue cross across it. His father saw it and thought it was a good idea - and so it came to be. *chuckles*

Well 'ol Gene was before Roy, could play guitar and sing.

Had different songwriters and recorded, made hits and movies...

Look at John Wayne, he didn't sing 'cept when he got liquered up.

Didn't pick guitar, just played with his cat, general Lee. He talked mean,

abused prisoners and suspects, got in trouble with his boss hangin' Judge

Isaac Parker, got reinstated, shot up outlaws including Robert Duval (who

almost killed him). But that lucky shot saved his life, and then became a

great success overnite, getting an Oscar.... Glen said he made him look

good in the movie, and then he got his first Oscar... :laughing7: :dontknow: :fish:

Serenades are still around in our small town in South Texas, but are usually sung on Mother's day to honor them. There are many who charge to go and sing for your Mother, and then there are those of us who get together and sing to all the Moms of the group.

I had a Compadre who could play the guitar, and we went serenading for many years, sometimes with a squeeze box player along. We played two songs at each house, which were Las Mañanitas, and Mi Madrecita Querida. On the Mañanitas instead of saying for being your birthday, we say for being Mother's day.

Many friends would join us, we would start after it got dark, and would manage to sing to everyone's Mom just around daybreak. Sometimes we would have up to eight vehicles loaded with friends following from house to house. One New Years eve my friend blew his index finger with a derringer, but we would still go serenade on Mothers day, with out his finger. I would tell him that I could get him guitar with a little crank on the side, and he would take it well.

That second song would always bring the tears out, it was hard to sing it sometimes while seeing Mother, and Son, or Mother, and Daughter embraced shedding tears together. My Compadre passed away a few years ago, and I have missed several years of serenading. Hopefully I can find another good guitar player that can follow me on Re.

Homar. Good story. Wow. That was nice.

And, Crosse'. I am truly and deeply sorry for your loss. Your tributes were touching. Armies of angels are always around us to give us strength when we need it most. May you feel his light upon you, shining fully, all around!

Y'all are all a bunch a sentimental's too, some of us maybe a tad bit older,
but it's the thought that counts, right... :toothy4:

Really cool story Amigo Homar, sounds like a fun and rich tradition,
for sure. You have my sympathy on the loss of your good Compadre.
I hope you get another partner to sing with. It's one of the hardest
things about life, for me anyways, losing good people... :coffee:

Anyway, thanks all, very kindly, for all of the kind words and support.
Thanks for the encouragement too, Senorita Mrs. Jodie. Your words
are always so strong and true... 8-) :fish:

Good true friends are an irreplaceable, fun treasure, that keeps
things more interesting, but sometimes seems, only comes
around so much in life. :coins::3barsgold::treasurechest:

Hope all y'all have a real good day! :coffee2::coffee2::coffee2::coffee2::coffee2::coffee2::coffee2::coffee2:

I used to listen to Jackson a lot, and have seen him
live several times, 2 nights in a row at the L.A. Forum
in '81. I think "Doctor My Eyes" was his first hit. He
co-wrote "Take It Easy" with The Eagles' Glen Frey,
and for some reason, his tunes have always meant
a lot, touching my sentimental heart...

Saw him first, as a special guest with The Eagles,
at the Ontario Motor Speedway, California Jam (1)
in the spring of '74. A little water has passed,
under the bridges since then, some silver... :fish:

I think this was after, or around the time frame, that his beautiful
young wife had died unexpectedly, and he wrote several songs, like
"These Days", "The Pretender", "Life's Dark And Silent Gate", and more.

Part of the "West Coast Pop Influence" of the day... :fish:

I always thought he came up with some pretty good lines,

like: "Running into the sun, but I'm runnin' behind".

Why didn't I think of that, or the title. I admit

there is an influence in my own writing, as I've
always tried to learn from everyone's songs... 8-) :fish:

I have great respect for those who can paint with words, especially those few who stand above the rest. They manage to convey some very deep thoughts in a way that everyone can relate to, and do it with words that rhyme.

I have never been able to compose anything, I can come up with a good verse, but can't make the transition to the next. I can't get out of the same rhyming words.:BangHead:
