I am having trouble trying to identify the maker's mark that is stamped on this here mug. It appears to me to be either a "UB" or maybe an "LB" or the "B" could be an "8" or... Lol. Whatever the 2 characters, they are blended together, which adds to my confusion. Also I am not sure what kind of glaze this has either.

I would really appreciate drawing from the bottomless pool of knowledge that flows from within the forum. Oh sages, may my mug fill a draft of thine wisdom.

Thank you.

This is just a guess but, despite the general outward appearance suggesting otherwise, I think this is a relatively obscure modern piece by the Unzicker Brothers. With apologies for the poor picture (examples are hard to find), this is their impressed ‘conjoined UB’ mark:

Tom and Jeff Unzicker established their pottery just outside Thorntown, Indiana in the summer of 2000, specialising in traditionally made salt-glazed stoneware using a wood-fired kiln. In 2013, Tom moved to Newton, Kansas while Jeff remained in Indiana and they now operate a studio in each place.

Their early pieces in particular have a very rustic artisanal look. This is one of their mugs (produced by Jeff at the Thorntown studio):

Oh my wow, Red-Coat! I think you've hit the nail right on the head! UB marks the pot!

The location of the Unzicker Brothers makes since, as Thorntown is only about 25 miles(or 40km, be ye metric minded) from where I live.

Thank you so much, wise Friend! I'm a hard-nosed Hoosier boy, through and through. I love anything from my home here at the Crossroads of America. And you have given me a gift that I am now quite fond of. Two, actually. Two gifts, as the background story of these two brothers from Thorntown is just as much a thing I will hold dear.

Thanksies for reelzies mate for sharing your special insight into this local connection with me. I really love it now, and will hence forth, be ever vigilant for more of the ‘conjoined UB’ to add to my newly budded collection!
