I found this spoon at a garage sale for .25 cents. It was all tarnished and ugly when I got it. All it says on the bottom is COMMUNITY. Is it silver or just plated? If it's only plated, is it worth anything?
I found this bracelet at a playground with my detector. It doesn't have markings but I'm pretty sure the chain is silver and the other parts plated. Its made by Disney.

Pretty sure your spoon is plate , but at least you're getting out and having a go at it - garage sales or detecting , it's all treasure hunting !

Nice finds, I was out today for 4 hours, wasn’t too bad in the shade but the direct sunlight was hot. Got my first silver with the new Nox and quit

Nice finds Mvgirl! I have yet to find a solid sterling silver spoon, but have found several plated ones. One in particularly good condition is being currently used to eat my Apple-Jacks cereal. Gotta re-purpose some stuff right?

Oh cool!!! 1940... wow that's pretty old. I mean... 25 cents for it (even though it's plated) is a good deal. Thanks for looking it up for me. Pretty cool that you found the exact same pattern. I looked it up and only found one picture the same as mine.

I want to make a ring out of the handle but I don't know how I'll do it. I don't have the right tools.

Always look for the word 'sterling' on flatware. 99.9% of the time it will be there on true sterling pieces. Hallmarks may or may not be present. Also look for purity marks such as .925 or .950.
If you're not seeing these marks, it's most likely plated.
Oxidation, (tarnishing) affects sterling differently than it does on plated pieces. If an unmarked piece shows multi-colored or rainbow hues, it's plated. If the tarnish is black, it's silver.
