Dug Buffalo nickel - 1918/17-D??

I dug a Buffalo nickel this past weekend that was well-corroded thanks to the Missouri soil. It is a 1918-D, or at least I am 98% sure it is a 1918-D. The last "8" looks like it may be struck over a "7." Due to the corrosion and my treasure-addled brain, I WANT to see it as a 1918/17-D. I appreciate a fresh look by different eyes to shoot down my hopes and dreams of finding a rarity.

I could not get a good image of the date head-on with my camera or microscope due to the corrosion. Only the angle shots reveal the detail. Please take a look at the four images for me and give me your opinions.

I can't tell from the pictures. Try putting the coin down on the table for the picture. The camera is focusing on your fingerprints.

Just like the FBI it seems...

I tried to take a flat photo with my camera and microscope, but the date "disappears." I am trying to see if I can take a flat picture with a sidelight.
