I did the same thing a few years ago but ended up cracking the first one with the drill. I ended up building a simple hand punch that could be heated up cherry red. The melted rim on the holes helps reinforce the whole scoop so it won't crack under use. I made three scoops but now I just let the kids use them. I'm done bending over/ taking a knee on the beach. Too much wear n tear on this 45 year old body. I'll save that for the land hunts. I use a ss scoop with 40" handle custom made by borderline engineering in ca - worth every penny imo. Gh hh

I didn't have the cracking issue with mine. I know what you mean by the bending over part. Just received a metal hand scoop and a handle one for back up. Which will probably turn out to be the other way around.Ha ha. I have an arm cast and we're heading to the beach soon. So I was hoping the lighter plastic would be the thing for me. HH
