Got back to a spot on the river I found a few weeks ago. Highlight that day was a KGIII. Todays keepers were a homemade sinker, worn out Barber, pewter facsimile Spanish real button and a holed KGI. Highlight was the silver button. Never seen this style before but Im guessing very early 1800s. Any ideas?

Those are some interesting finds right there!
It's always amazing if you find a silver button... this must've been lost by someone of means.

Yes strange what we sometimes find at certain sites. Ive found a gold coin at a site that had practically no other coins and have found no silver at sites littered with buckles buttons etc

If your talking about the almost oval looking button/cuff link, then the ones I finds are mostly tombac 18th C.

Ive never found an oval tombac button but this one is definitely silver. Notice the concave front as well. Likely 18th century then?

Yes, not had the concave type other than on 18th C 'round' tombacs, so see no reason why it isn't the same date.
