Pretty sweet couple of days! My brother found his first silver hammered! Meanwhile, I struck gold, but not a coin; a nugget! Also have a possible roman coin but it's so worn don't think I'll ever know for sure. I think there is a medieval book bind too.

Mike,

Great finds, always nice to find gold no matter it’s form. Question, are you detecting the UK on your own or are you on one of the detecting tours or detecting on your own after attending Detectival. I would really be interested if you could share your thoughts about the trip if you are there with a detecting tour - I am considering going on one myself. Hell, I would be interested in hearing about your experience if you are detecting on your own. Good luck with your hunts. Walt

I'm not sure if it is just a natural nugget or something left over. But I'm told that gold isn't naturally found in England so I'm guessing the later. The museum has already disclaimed it.

Natural Gold is very rare & only turns up in Wales & Scotland, not aware of any sources in England.

Thank you! Yeah, you heard right. it's been kind of a drought there with little rain. Some areas were super tough to dig but the plowed fields were easy.

Yeah, That's what I was told, that it doesn't occur naturally in this area. One theory is that counterfeits were setting up shop in this area but who knows?

It's unusual, as we have had plenty of blobs of Silver in the past but no blobs of gold, even on a major metal working site!
