So I air tested my etrac on a newer gold coin and a 1927 silver dollar. The results were surprising.

Silver Coin read 1-41 which is pretty spot on
Gold Coin read 13-46 which was completely unexpected. I thought gold read lower? I'm glad it tried this . Also , I did an 1827 large cent and it read 11-39-11-41, as expected. The gold coin was surprising to me. Anyone ever find gold coin that registered like a silver coin?

That helps explain why gold jewelry is likely to hit over a fair range of numbers.

Careful on air tests with the Etrac. They sometimes will give you some odd results.

Size does make a difference too! :laughing7: The larger the item, the higher it will read

Yup, a $1 gold coin will read totally different than a $20.

Dr. Jones, I recommend you load the E-Trac Emulator program on your PC to see how each coin reads on the E-Trac. As Cudamark stated, each of the gold coins read differently. The $20 hits around 12-45. The $10 hits around 12-37 just like a zinc penny. $5 hits around 1-30 so the size does affect the CO reading.
