Hi Guys,
I found some aluminun tubing and would like to make a straight shaft and a chest or hip mount for my Excal 1000. What is better balanced under the arm or behind the elbow?
also what lenght to cut the tubing? I am leaning towards the behind the elbow but that can change. I have only used the excal about 5 times but it is a shoulder killer.
Any suggetions greatly appreciated.

I also have an old pair of 105 peltor head phones and will do that modd eventually.

I will post some finished pics in 2-3 weeks, first i have to finish some diggers I started for the occasional land hunt.

Thanks,Epi

I was thinking of doing the same. I have an Alro store near me, just have to find an aluminum tube that is 7/8" on the outside, and the same size as the bottom rod. They carry any size, so no problem. Speaking of that, make sure the rod is far enough out that the aluminum pipe doesnt interfere or cause problems with the coil. I was thinking of doing it with carbon fiber tube for lower 1/2 of shaft (alum upper-epoxy in solid ferrule-carbon fiber lower) so there is no metal interferance at all. Just might not have enough stiffness and strength for underwater swinging. I found that 1/2" PVC will work for waist rod, drill holes and use some nylon bolts and nuts from hardware store. Same outside size as stock rod. Then just use a nylon weight belt (without weights) and your set.

I use an Anderson shaft but hang the Excal from my neck on a piece of alum chair tubing. Just drill some holes for the control and battery ears and fasten with nylon bolts an wing nuts. Have camera strap fastened to tubing with a hole drilled through top of tubing for strap to fasten to. Tape cable from handle to coil on one side of shaft for water resistance. I never use the arm cuff as sliding arm in and out wastes time. Tether shaft to your belt with bungee cord and your all set with hardly any weight on arm.
