What is a transport vessel of 1797 going to hit and founder depth / draft wise, reasonably well loaded but not heavy.

Is it going to sail over 9 metres before hitting something shallower. My search area has 9 metres up wind but shallower about a mile down wind / down track.

If its going to get over the 9 m (30 ft) easily in good weather? Then I?ll forget that area initially?

Thanks MD, only 3 ft max tide and had to be good weather, everyone rescued by long boats.

I will point out some things to consider though Sads...

#1. Depth today in an area may not be the same as it was then.
#2. Strikes that cause a ship to sink may happen near were the ship now rests... and could be miles away...SO IOW... depth does not really rule out any one location.
#3. Mean low and mean high tides exist... circumstances in tides factor... getting your / any depth correct would be difficult at best at the time of any sinking not recorded.

#4.... shall i continue ?

Each potential location can never really be ruled out as a possible resting place for a majority of anything.

Thanks Archie, I have to start somewhere and if its very likely to get easily over the initial reef at 30 ft depth, I’ll start looking a mile downwind where it is definitely going to come to a halt.

Ps if you think you re getting a thank you for the word Yes….just sayin! I would have to use more words than you did to get thanked for??

Look downwind.....14, 15 feet deck awash is how much of the historical narratives read regarding shipwrecks !! Some drew more water and some drew less !! If a hurricane is involved they end up in 5-10 feet some times. If your searching an islands waters like say little inagua....your boat could be on the beach proper....tough to say, but I'd be starting in the 12 -15 ft depth towing along behind the boat zig zaging from 5-20 ft. Wish I was there to help look !!

How about bottom conditions? Shallow bedrock below sand in strategic locations, can be an important search factor also.
