What was the water source for the Indians before the canal was dug in the 1850's or did the canal follow and old stream bed?

I'm pretty sure you hit the nail on the head. My Dad seems to remember hearing that they dug a shallow stream deeper. But if not, there would have still been water likely within easy walking distance because there are lots of places where the rivers pop out of the ground.

Just noticed that you made the trip with your Daddy. You're a lucky man to still have him around. Mine passed 16 years ago and I miss him dearly.

Thanks man. My grandpa (his dad) passed away at the beginning of the year, a wound that is definitely still very fresh. Thank you for reminding me of the blessing I still have!
