I dug this up about 2 years ago on my property. Have found other items leading me to believe there was an old barn or farm here in late 1700’s to early 1800’s. my first thought is this could have been a buckle or adornment. It is very thin metal and about 1.5” tall and wide. Any help identifying is greatly appreciated. It is too dainty to have been a horse bridle rosette
thank you

I doubt it is a real belt buckle. But maybe it hung from some sort of cloth strap? I am not sure if it would be more like an award? Think hanging downwards and could be worn around the neck?

I think that tab in the center of the back could have had Tongue hook to attach to the other end of the belt.

Also, for future reference take pictures on a plain non reflective background.
When they are taken in your hand the camera tries to focus on the fingerprints and not the artifact.

A real nice looking find! Looks like a rivet in the middle of the "D" on the back to hold the flower on front in place. Late last year I found a very thin buckle that although was a different shape was on the small side. A TNetter suggested it was for a choker. Maybe the one you found is also...

Could very well be. Thanks for passing along the idea!
