I've been whining about not being able to find a silver quarter anywhere in my short detecting career, I've tried parks, homesteads, farms, yards.... I feel lucky in my finds, as I've found civil war items, capped bust dime, etc. But I couldn't pull a 1964 or earlier quarter anywhere.

I've been hitting a new farm with my 6" coil, not tons of signals around, I suspect it's been hit hard in the past. However the grass is thick and tall and the items seem deeper than normal in the black dirt, so I broke out the stock coil to see if I've been missing deep targets. Didnt find much until I got a jumpy 25-32 vdi in the the side of the median between ruts in on an old farm path. I wasn't too excited yet as there has been some high tone melted aluminum in several places near here.

Dug it up, looked at how shiny it was, checked the date, i swear it said 1984. Looked at the rim, this is silver, then realized its 1934. Finally after 4 years.

Thanks for looking

Got a pic all cleaned up? It looks like it was dropped in 1934. Most of these 30's Washingtons come out very well worn. So, it looks like it was worth the wait.
I bet you find another silver quarter in the next five hunts.
Grats and thanks for the great post.

Once you hear one they'll come to you. I'm on a kick where i can't find a dime but every outing I'm getting a silver quarter. Last 6 outings SLQ, Barber, skunk, Wash, Wash, Barber but not no silver dimes. one surface 64' but didn't get to use the machine. No complaints but I wonder how many I walked away from thinking it was a shard of that nearby can I started digging.

Looks in nice shape. :icon_thumleft: If it's from the "D"enver mint, it's worth a bit more than a Philly mint.
