Finding places to legally prospect around Ogden area

I am back in Utah, from Florida, for probably almost a year with my job. I'm working at Hill AFB and staying in Layton. I am looking for a way to find places I can pan legally. I did AF last time I was here without much success - I don't have a 4x4 or much knowledge of the area nor know anyone who lives here, so I am at a tremendous disadvantage. With that in mind, how can I find those places to pan, and/or if anyone might be interested in a prospecting partner feel free to hit me up. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

How far up a.f. did you go? What are you driving? It is a pretty rough canyon, I drive a full size 4x4 (stock) and there are lots of places I can't go. graveyard pass is not for the faint of heart. Cliff one side, 200 foot drop off other side. 11 foot wide in places. What size did you classifiy.
