8B538161-1414-485C-8427-CBB5AEE0B4E6.webpFound today. A shame it’s got this black crud on it. At a trashy 1800s home site. Tons of great signals and just trash. Came up 86-87 on AT pro. Needed something like this been on a bad dry spell7AD96F95-A101-4BB0-BBFD-0A2A9DA76947.webpEB80BDE1-E3E5-4E84-A643-3C7D8FF41966.webp62850B1A-F910-4009-926A-3BE638FE70A4.webp

Congrats on the LC

Congrats - Very nice can you get a date off it?

I'm sure some people will offer some cleaning advice, I might soak it in olive oil or try tumbling it in sand.

Great find,

Pete

I think I see a 20 not sure. So best guess is 1820 haha. The black stuff on the face is hard black cement like crap.

it is still a great find, especially after all of the trash you went through

Congrats, it's always a great day when you can dig your first LC. :occasion14: I was on cloud nine when I dug my 1st.

Best way to maybe attempt to get this a little better? I don’t know if olive oil will do anything to this crud but I could be mistaken

Sure, why not, soak it for a month or more and then maybe you can pick some crud off using tooth picks. Others may have a better method.

Thanks I’ll take that into consideration

I’m beginning to think it might even be like melted or something and it’s not even crud. Guess I’ll try to find a better one lol

Congrats on your first LC! I remember my first, it was a bouncy, scratchy signal about 8" deep and I almost passed it up. The reason the signal was wonky bcoz there was a Zincoln at 2 inches and can slaw at 4 inches..then the signal was a steady 86-87, just like yours. A few more seconds rooting around produced my first Largie. Just like Loco said, you never forget your first Large Cent, it's one of the few finds I'll remember for the rest of my life. Congrats on scratching that one off your list, now go get number two! Thx for sharing, Ddf.

Congratulations on the first large cent, may many more find your coil! :occasion14:

Just posted new pic of coin. At certain angle I can def see a date. Looks to me like 1820 like I thought or am I imagining it

Great first LC! You'll find many more for sure. Congrats!
