First lock on Sunday's hunt

Hi all:

I was able to get out today for several hours on this gorgeous day. :icon_sunny: I hit my new site and concentrated on the area where the former granery was. The homeowner was gone so I had no distractions and got lots of digging in. I found my first lock and some assorted relics: religous medal, big spoon, zipper pull that says "Bath and Body Works," a domed button. (?) I'm not sure if the silver, round thing is a watch fob. :icon_scratch: Also dug a bunch of clad, nothing older than 1969. Was the first IH I found here a fluke or what? The current owner did do some bulldozing after they moved in....who knows where the old silver is hiding?!

Thanks for looking and HH,
Michiganne

Re: First lock on Sunday's hunt

Nice going Anne. That silver one might be a pocket watch cover?
That site has more oldies there I am sure!

Re: First lock on Sunday's hunt

Nice diggs Anne. Can't help you much on ID's though. The silver is in the front yard, about 2 paces to the left of the original door (LOL).

Thanks, Mark!!! Only problem is that 2 paces left of the original front door is now under concrete and one of the earlier house additions.:'( :'( :tongue3:

Re: First lock on Sunday's hunt

Hello, Michiganne,

the little brown dome thing looks like the old time buttons that were on a lot of lady's coats. they had a little
pedistal on the under side with a hole for the thread. I remember some like that that my Mother used to have.

Happy hunting

Thanks Ray! So how old would you guess it to be? The third pic shows the back of it.

Re: First lock on Sunday's hunt

Michiganne, the earliest ones for sure that I remember were from the early 50's but I am sure they were being made much
earlier than that. And I think they were quite common at that time. I am not sure if they have really stopped making
that type of button. I have seen some coats with wildlife pics on tha backs and some with scenes of tourist attractions
on them with similar type buttons. this probably wasn't much help to you but is about all I can offer.

Happy Hunting,

Ray

Re: First lock on Sunday's hunt

Good stuff Anne. That's the stuff I love to dig. I don't post pictures but I dug up something like your silver relic. I have no idea what it could be. Very ornate decoration. I guess I'm going to need to learn to post images.
