Greetings from Iowa,

I went out with my four year old and found these in the riverbank. The first is a small piece of bone that looks to have been a tool of some sort.

The next items where barely sticking out of the bank and looked like one foot long sticks coated with something?I reburied these. Wondering for ideas. We also found a few bison bones and other items.

Thanks for looking. 9659486D-E380-420E-98FA-917E0D72E5F1.jpeg 0ADAB88A-7508-46E3-82E0-7069FB8439B6.jpeg F7639C2B-52EF-4B02-AA94-8A6F4FFB569C.jpeg

The middle is half a hoof the far ones look like really rusty iron as for the first I?m leaning towards a claw looks sorta fossilized but can?t tell, doubt it?s tooth with the shape of what would be the root but rivers can wear things in funny ways

Makes sense. The first two pictures are the same item. The other items might have been iron clad stakes.

Welcome from Illinois!! Nice finds! Great taking the kiddo out!

Thank you! I found two mammoth teeth in Ford County when I was about 12. My sixth grade teacher sent them to the Unversity of Illinois for verification and then we moved! Thirty years later I felt like a little kid again taking my youngest out. Unfortunately, no mammoth teeth this time!

The U of I is bad about returning things. A friend sent in a meteorite for ID and it took 3 yrs. and a lawyer to get it back. It was real and I figure that's why they wanted to keep it. Gary
