Well done ... but you should never rub a coin like that... it is in remarkable condition... and a gentle wash is much better... carry a water bottle.
Yes I know, But I don't care.. I knew I will be getting replies like this.. lol.. But anyways thanks for your time and commenting... :)

Sad to think that attitude could ruin a REAL meal ticket with such haste and "i dont care" mojo...

Perhaps you wont feel that way if ever the day you are told... "that coin would be worth 30k without that damage"... "but with it its worth 30 bucks".

I mean after all what are you digging for anyway ? FOR great finds ? and possibly ruin them in the process... kinda defeats the purpose.

Not only that... you further create disdain by the historical and Archi communities with actions and attitudes... AND THEN POST IT.... i mean ? ? ?

Metal detecting has never been about speed... in fact this is the exact opposite way to find REAL metal. heh
Congrats guys on hte hunt.
What's there not to like getting an early silver.
Personally the Half Dime is well detailed, but the corrosion is the killer not the rub.
But as you said it don't matter-as it's your's.

I get what you're saying ARC, the care of recovery can mean a $$$ keeper or an "oh fark" moment.
Having carved a few key dated coins over the years, or hitting a nice relic hurts.

Oh the soft silver coinage, even disturbing the soils can/will leave micro scratches on the coin.
I've used water from the drink bottle, lakes, streams, creeks, mud puddles, ponds, spit, and yes I even pissed on a few. (didn't want to spare a whole lot of water-just for the rinse)
Reasons is out and about, caring the silver in the pocket, or in a container with the dirt, will cause scratching, so I tend to get it cleaned up a tad, then wrap in in kleenex.
My silver and I can do as I want to....

I enjoy the discussion back and forth about how to approach a coin just dug lol. I'm on team just use a bit of water and being careful you just never know when something good will be there. But to each their own of course. In regards to the find that is an awesome silver coin I love how the eagles on the coins looked in that era. I've yet to find one with that style of eagle still waiting on that.

I think I would probably be one of those people :). I love any old coins... I'm not a seasoned detectorist...but that's ok...

I never do a rub or a real full clean in the field on anything that appears to be a silver or old... just a simple rinse to get an idea if it is something other than "normal"... might rinse again when back at vehicle for better relook.
Not all things get this "attention"... because as we all know... most of what is found doesn't warrant it.

There will be that day that you wished you hadn't done that.... happens to all of us... and sometimes many times before the whole realization that its better to go easy and worry about the item is later... eventually it becomes natural to resist rubbing.

Anything that feels or looks like it might be something good... i resist that initial urge... I don't want the possibility of screwing it up.

Shaking my head... Detector Moe has an incredible find... and instead everyone wants to argue about him rubbing the coin! Wow...

Incredible find sir thank you for posting... use this posts to inspire yourself...not to argue like broads!
