Just an example of another bass from the waters in front of the house.
Buddy was right happy with this catch.

The Mrs keeps say I should be casting off our dock.
It's easier to just do a trade for some beef.

Im always amazed at how different the bass look from up north. That one looks gold compared to the big black swamp monsters of the south !!

He caught a pike and the Big Mouth Bass yesterday, there's the small mouth version as well.

This one he figured would be around 4.5 lbs last weekend the father caught a 5.5 lb 22inch large mouth.
Now talk about a couple of fellows that the fishing passion runs deep in the veins.

Flathead?(The fish , not your son...)
Fun times fishing them in the past. They're different that channel cats which are our other option here. With flatheads more interested in live bait.
I enjoyed eating small ones now and then.

Had some flatheads in a fish tank awhile. Interesting fish for sure.

Lol Yes flathead. He uses creek chubs for bait. He said they were biting like crazy that night. We had an albino channel cat in an aquarium. When it finally died, I used a slim fast carton (almost as long as pop carton and it was all I had) to bury it. The tail stuck out about 3 inches.

I shed a tear when one I named "splitwhisker" because of it having one forked whisker , died.
Buried it under an oak in the yard.

Lake Martin Alabama Spotted Bass Fishing - September 24, 2021

My bud Gary and I launched at Kowaliga landing at 7:20 AM and fished hard until 2:30 PM. It was 55 degrees at first and warmed up to +/- 77 with a sunny sky all day. Water temp maxed out at 80 degrees from 77-78 w/10-15 mph wind early in the morning. Caught these in tree tops in mostly deep water (25'-30') with Texas rigged 4" Watermelon Red ZOOM Lizards. We did catch a few on spoons when we saw them briefly breaking top water and was able to pitch amongst them! After culling our catch, we kept these 17 that yielded 5 pints of fillets--much better than we expected!

The fall derby time has started. There are two running simultaneously and we’re in both. We went out of Lorain today. Caught 3 right off the bat. Then the bite died. It picked up again early afternoon, but storms chased us off the lake.
I only got a fly by pic of the lighthouse.

We made a good call getting off the water when we did.

We caught 9, the biggest was this 7#. Not big enough for derby fishing. One outfit is having contest for biggest fish caught on saturdays. We’ll see how it goes.

Labor day weekend 2021 at 'the cove'....My first California halibut. 15 lbs weighted by fish and game. hit him on his head with my jig soon as we motored down on the waypoint. Dropped back down and hit a rex sole on his head. Went home with 2 limits of salmon, limit of rockfish, this bad boy, and a rex sole. Epic fishing trip. Ocean was so flat I did most my fishing from my bass tracker jon boat. Sure glad I brought it.

1st afternoon fishing at 'the cove'. The 2 better fish of the days limit. Courtesy of my Gold finds I cashed in to buy my boat that I used to bag these delicious creatures. Only problem is now I have a boat, I havnt been detecting near as much, so my gold finds have been non existent. Oh well. Nothing more Id rather do than be on the ocean fishing.

Sailfish, mahi mahi, mutton snapper, blackfin tuna, and kingfish !!
