🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Flag Pole holder? Just an idea

Hi all,
Sharing these photos from my uncle. We have both found these at a range of sites dating to about 1860-1910. Those we have found are always solid brass. Not exactly sure what they’d be used for? His thought was a flag pole holder.

Could be but I’m not sure what’d it’d be. We’ve found ramrod guides before and these are way thicker and much more large.

Your brass tent-rope adjuster was invented and US-patented in 1880. See the original Patent-diagram below, in which the item is called a tent-slip." It was first adopted for use by the US Army in 1889... over 30 years after the end of the civil war. Its 1880 patent was renewed when the original one expired in 1896. After the renewed patent expired (1912) anybody could manufacture the item without having to pay the inventor a royalty, so the item was not patent-marked after the patent expired. That means the unmarked one you found was made sometime after 1912.
