The marking of Orange Colour is a 'quality mark.' As you may already know, these flat buttons were worn by civilians (and some of our Boys in Gray during the Civil War.) Your button was probably made in England circa early 1800's to 1830ish. The gold color you see is gold gilt. Neat find, Breezie

thanks..glad to know that there not modern. now there the oldest things in my collection..i think???...i don't think i'll clean them up..i've already ruined a couple finds by cleaning them and now i gun shy....peace...

I think those cleaned up nicely. The one with the shank is in great shape! I'm hoping to dig a few more good ones so I can put a set on one of my CW reenactment jackets.
