Howdy folks! his is one of my best finds ever....hit a big signal, thought it was a can...checked it out just in case...one little square of flint popped out and I thought at first it was a scraper...then another and another popped out as well as the musketballs. i realised i had found a dropped pouch of musket flints with musketballs. Dragoon buttons have been found on the site.

Cools finds.
Would looks nice in a display the way you have them laid out.

Whoops on second glance, I see they're in a Ryker case.

WoW!!

Great find! An expert should be able to pin down the time frame and type of gun that used it as well.

Good luck and keep us posted.

It would be quite normal for an Indian to have those items in his possession. After all they had guns too.

Cool Cool Cool!!!! I do flint knapping and that kind of flint ain't real common in the states. That's what we call root beer flint, and most of it's english. I have a chunk of it in my garage that I bought from a buddy that imports it from England. Did the U.S. import it's flint during the Civil War? But I guess we got most of our CW era rifles from England, right? So it would stand to reason that that could very well be english flint. Somebody correct me on this if I'm wrong, I dig history, just don't know that much about it.

Or is this Revolutionary era stuff, again, I don't know much about history. I know a little more about flint since I make arrowheads, but not a ton there either. I'm just interested!

That find is quite exceptional. I don't think I've EVER seen so many PERFECT gun flints in one spot.

Awesome!

thanks for all the comments folks! there were English Dragoons on the site at one time...the Indians that inhabited the area were long gone by the time those flints were dropped there. I believe they are English flints. The site has alot of history, from Confederate, to US Army, to Rough Riders, to Spanish fish ranchero..then there is the Indian history, which goes back from 500 ybp to paleo days. I will post some close up pics later that will show that they aren't completely perfect, many of them have percussion marks on them.
