Hi T-net friends.

On Saturday I found a coin that no one expects to dig. 1795 Flowing Hair half dime.

Go easy on me folks--I did kiss this coin with my shovel. It was in the ground at 90 degrees, about 6 inches, and was surrounded by flaky targets making it very difficult to pinpoint.

I know a lot of you folks are vocal about not liking videos on the forum or not trusting links, but I assure you this is a safe link and the video is incredible. Very emotional find for me.

I was using a Fisher F75Ltd and operating in De mode (which I rarely do) 20 disc, 3 tone. The signal was just a whisper with VDI fluctuating between 55-60.

The coin was found in Maryland on private property, with permission.

Thank you for enjoying this tiny piece of rescued history with me!

Brad

I'm new to coins .... so I looked this up and found the below .... do you know what "variety" it is

Also - was that property known to be settled early 1800 or even earlier then? I'm just curious as I've never found anything "old" for coins and that looked like a highway and fenced yard ..... it baffles me to think that coin laid there for what .... 200 years? 190 years?

awesome man ... just awesome

The Flowing Hair Half Dime was produced with just two dates, 1794 and 1795, though both were actually coined in 1795, combining for a total of 86,416 pieces.

Flowing Hair Half Dimes saw heavy duty amongst the first citizens of the United States, with very few surviving to this day. There are ten known varieties of the 1795 Flowing Hair Half Dime. All are rare, some exceedingly so.

Outstanding find, Brad! And hey, I would've gotten a little emotional too under the circumstances. Your find has forced me to add yet another item to my bucket list. Keep it up!

Surely you're joking. I have been very touched by all the comments and will have some more personal responses shortly. I'm still on cloud 10.

Hell of a find man--- I thought cloud 9 was the max :occasion14:

Started with a Garrett. I think I've probably tried everything make and model from 1977, all the way to the up to the E-trac and GPX 4800.
Nothing new as for me now, I am pretty much handicapped.

Fantastic find man!! And with nice detail too. I'm still looking for one of those, but I think my attempts are futile .....

My banner vote is in ....

I'm honored! You dig the most incredible coinage... If anyone's next, I'm talking at him.
