I would say, yes. But, I don't remember what it was like without the pads.

I guess it would depend on the soles of your boots/shoes, but I have the Piranha without the pads and it seems find to me.
I normally wear boots and not athletic shoes though.

High quality rubber boots but soles have a bit of flex so for the cost I’ll get rather than regret not getting
