found a few years ago, prickly pear bulb???

a found this years ago in the new mexican desert. reminds me of a prickly pear. looking at drawing i looks like the top to the little criniod round fossils that are found everywhere, ne ideas
oh and its hollow i can hear something rattling around inside, and no its not a geode

It looks like a hunk of coral, perhaps a brain coral. It appears to have been a living colony of coral polyps sometime in the past. Hope this helps a little.
Nice piece to add into a collection.
Keep on the hunt.

I think it might be a cystoid, real nice find.

You were correct. It is a crinoid calyx. It is missing the arms but, still a nice piece. There are likely more where it came from.
