Hey everyone been a while since my last post but better late than never. Over the summer we lost my grandfather. He was a wonderful man, avid hunter and fisherman even in his later years. He taught me how to fish and shoot and took his kids and grandkids on many an adventure. I love and miss him greatly.
My dad an I were going through some things and I came across this what I thought was a small guage shotgun. It was sitting on the I Beam in his basement. My dad and uncles laid claims to all other firearms except this one. I didnt see any makers marks or stamps initialy but after some looking around I found some.
Turns out this is indeed A 2nd Version Massachusetts Arms Company Manyard Carbine. Chambered in 50 cal. with a 20 inch barrel. Its number 10423. This carbine most likely saw action during the Civil War. It is in verry poor condition due to sitting neglected for who knows how long. Looks like at some point it was painted which is a bummer. The stamps are very hard to see as if someone sanded it down prior to painting it.
Here are some pictures for your entertainment. Any ideas on what I should do to it? Id like to put a stock on it and hang it up possibly but for now it will stay as it is.
