Looks like a wood spike of some sort. Perhaps a chisel. The older ones I've seen on the east cost of Florida are a little more eroded/rusted down from the salt water.

The ones I've found have a green patina and are made of brass. That looks to be iron.

If it's square with a tapered( chisel shaped) point it is probably a spike used for ship building or railroad track attachment.
How long is it and does a magnet stick to it?
