any idea if it is worth anything it is brass not gold
Yeah, horse tack, spring clip hook thingy, that hooked up a string of horses quickly to a wagon or post

The spot I found it at there was no roads near by it is a hiking trail covered in trees and it was the barlow trail used as a wagon road pre oregon days so this puppy is old as dirt i would say it was made in late 1700s before 1850
or before late 1700s

Yeah that is old for sure.
I’ve been on the Barlow Trail at the very top where the wagons were lowered down super steep sectionS with scars on the trees to prove it!
Tough going!

I have LOTS of books on Wagon Hardware, but lacking in Horse Tack...!
Anyone out there, who has a good handle on the Name of the item, AND the Use of the thing, too...!
Much appreciated! :icon_thumright:
Then we can help out that new fella in the hobby.
We all learn from each other, you know.....

I think it is a quick hook and release harness strap. They would put the hook in leather holes

More horse tack.
Mine would have had a swivel end, the other end a quick release.
Found on a stage road
