I'm guessing a coin which was smoothed and then carved into a button. It's hard to make out anything of the back photo. Any pics with more angle?

Looks like a collar stud - mid to late 19th C or very early 20th.

I would say late 18th C, but the type of hand carved horse head pattern. It would make it contemporary with similar tombac hand carved buttons.
