Good question. This will show me a bit but I don't mind.
Yrs ago I was between jobs. At the time doing security work, crowd control.
I was near done with people then. Burnt out you could say. Was the time I started to have faith, Christian. We went to a Church near us and got to know the minister pretty well. After a while I got to telling him how I loved the bush, being taken hunting and fishing with my father. He then said "did you ever look for gold?"
Im "no why?"
He then said "wait here" and left the room and came back with a shoe box.
Me and my wife just sat there then he opens it and starts taking out gold nuggets! We were dumbstruck!
Ill cut a long story short. Few months later we moved to the bush, I got a job in a small well known detecting shop in a town called Dunolly, worked there for yrs, got to use all the gear, boss had me take people out for lessons and it snow balled from there. Met huge amounts of old timers and met some of the best friends iv ever known. Has been amazing. Never looked back. 👍👍👍😀

I have been walking around the desert since at least 1960. when we were kids we would sell lizards to the zoo for $0.01 each. Then a guy moved a couple blocks over and he had found a arrowhead and I have not stopped yet. I got my first ditector when I got a divorce in 1998, most of my stuff I found just using my eyes.

Findings with just you eyes, sometimes are the best.

I were living in borwnsville and family of a friend used to capture snakes and frogs and sell to a restaurantes and pharmaceutical industry.

I love it for the love of the outdoors and finding what was once lost.
The fun in thinking about who lost it and when and the why.
I've been swinging a coil off and on since 1978.
I tried making friends with others, but they all ruined it by nighthawking my permissions.

I have to agree with loving the hobby for being outdoors and finding things that are lost, I’ve also had a friend who doesn’t detect describe it as, “adult Easter Egg hunting.”

I started tagging along with my uncle in 1992 or 1993 when he would go detecting; I don’t really remember, I was only 4 or 5 at the time but got my own detector in high school so I’ve got maybe 15 years of experience on my own. I also enjoy estate sales, garage sales and antique shops just to find quality items that people seem to have forgotten about and treasure them for the amount of effort those individuals put into perfecting their craft. I don’t get to do much of either, I made the decision to pick a career that requires a tremendous amount of my time and I’ll likely be looking at an average work week of 60-80 hours for the rest of my life but it’s very rewarding in that I get to help many people when they’re at their sickest.

52 years in the hobby/endeavor. I like the past/present connection involved in finding things. First detector was a BFO. I remember LOADS of coins found at the bottom of sledding hills around Milwaukee WI. But that was before the MOUNDS of pop-tops and other trash. There was some but I don't remember it slowing me down or discouraging me. ╦╦C

I think of detecting as searching for a needle in a haystack. It's quite rewarding to have found many "needles" over the years. I started detecting in about 1975 with a Compass detector, followed by a Garrett Groundhog. I took a 30 year hiatus,, and got back into this wonderful hobby around 2013 with an AT-Pro, and more recently the XP Deus.

Estas las encontramos en un lugar que se llama el chuviscar, son monedas de diferentes años, ahí está un peso Morelos, conocido como tepalcate por tener muy poca plata.
Ya ando en Chihuahua. Cuando quieras me acerco al paso y también te invito a buscar en estas áreas . En las minas de santa Eulalia hay muchas piedras y hay acceso.

You guys recovered a nice assortment of finds once again-just bonuses really.
As I think the friendship, and getting together is the real treasure in the post.

Pretty well a lone wolf here-I use to cherish the family bond of detecting early on, that water has past 40+yrs ago.
I have been digging dirt now going on 55 yrs, never have gotten tired of seeing what is there under the dirt of time.

I like your digging tools, just shows how hard the ground is to recover the finds.

I love that you have found good friends-a REAL treasure…!
I’ve only detected 15 years, but it was a natural extension from the archaeology I do still- I love dirt…!

love those finds, thanks. 4 years in the hobby. I love detecting because I enjoy things that make me feel like a kid. Treasure hunting in the dirt is one of them.
